Owned and operated by SMG, Metro Radio Arena is the north east’s premier entertainment venue.

Metro Radio Arena is a purpose-built, highly-flexible entertainment venue with a capacity of up to around 11,400. Located on the Banks of the Tyne adjacent to the Redheugh Bridge, it is within a 10-minute walk of Newcastle Central Station and 20 minutes by taxi from Newcastle Airport.

Conceived and constructed by Chas Chandler, ex-member of the 60’s band The Animals (of ‘House of the Rising Sun’ fame) and his partner, Nigel Stanger, Metro Radio Arena opened its doors for the first time in November 1995 with a concert by David Bowie. Since then, it has hosted some of the finest world class entertainers to visit the region, including Tom Jones, Take That, Ed Sheeran, Noel Gallagher, Neil Diamond, Kylie Minogue, and Sir Elton John.

Major sports events have been hosted at the venue including Davis Cup Tennis, Nations Cup Snooker and World Championship Boxing. The venue has also welcomed many lavish top class shows including MAMMA MIA!, Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, Disney on Ice and Les Misérables.
