Yorkshire Event Centre

The Yorkshire Event Centre (YEC) in Harrogate hosts an average of 52 events a year, from trade exhibitions and product launches to public shows, countryside pursuits and vintage car rallies.

The venue boasts 6,270m2 of indoor exhibition space, recently increased from 5,372m2 with the completion of a brand new purpose built exhibition hall replacing the old Hall 1. YEC is home to the Yorkshire café, a brand CGC created in close collaboration with the venue team to create a catering hub for roughly 190 event days a year.

The brief for the cafe concept was simple. We needed a core brand identifier that would be easily recognisable and indicative of the café’s core values: a traditional offering strongly rooted in Yorkshire providing freshly prepared, wholesome food. The Yorkshire café teapot was developed along with a complementary colour palette, typography and tone of voice.

Produce and menu

As you would expect, The Yorkshire café features locally sourced produce from the many wonderful growers, farmers, wholesalers and producers to be found on the doorstep. A popular addition to the newly constructed menu was the Yorkshire tapas (YAPAS) range, offering a selection of Yorkshire favourites with fresh salads, hot new potatoes and homemade dressings – a grazing style lunch from which people can pick and choose.

Brand development

In order to cater for the often very specific client profiles attracted to the range of events at the YEC we further developed our catering range to fit varying audiences. “Over the Garden Wall” was introduced at the 2014 Fashion and Gift Fair, a majority female crowd, where we were aiming to provide for the ‘Ladies that lunch’ with a light tapas lunch including a glass of wine.

Large scale events

YEC also plays host to a number of large conferences and dinners each year. In November 2016, Welcome to Yorkshire once again selected the venue for their most prestigious annual event, The White Rose Awards, celebrating tourism excellence across the county. 1100 guests were served a three course meal packed full of local produce. A main course of fillet of beef was chosen, presenting each guest with perfectly cooked succulent Yorkshire meat.

We were also required to adhere to a very strict timescale for delivery of the meal with awards being presented between courses. Our staff were well briefed on the expectations of our client and were highly commended for their efficiency and attention to detail. The key to success was in the planning, we worked closely with the client and their chosen suppliers and the operational team at the venue to ensure that we fully understood their requirements from the outset. We pride ourselves on this level of detail, regardless of the event size, to guarantee the highest levels of service and quality of food.
