The NAA (National Arenas Association) has welcomed SMG Europe’s flagship UK arenas as members of its organisation.

SMG, the UK’s biggest arena operator, will now bring all of its major venues into the NAA as Phones 4u Arena Manchester, Metro Radio Arena Newcastle and first direct Arena Leeds join existing member Odyssey Arena Belfast.

John Knight, Senior Vice President UK Operations said: “We’ve enjoyed the benefits of membership through our Belfast venue for the last ten years. By adding our full portfolio of UK arenas we now confirm our long term commitment to the NAA.

“With the opening of the first direct Arena in Leeds last summer we’ve consolidated our position as the biggest arena operator in the country which allows us to bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the industry’s leading forum.”

Guy Dunstan, Chairman of the National Arenas Association said: “I am delighted that Phones 4u Arena Manchester, Metro Radio Arena Newcastle and first direct Arena Leeds have joined the Odyssey Arena, Belfast as members of the National Arenas Association. The NAA represents the best interests of the arena industry, sharing best practice, training programmes and improving standards, a recent example being the launch of the Arenas Safety Guide and I look forward to the SMG venues contributing to our various working groups and meetings.”

The group’s newest venue, the first direct Arena in Leeds, opened last summer with sold out shows by Bruce Springsteen and Elton John. In December the arena hosted BBC Sports Personality of the Year, broadcast live to over 8 million viewers.

SMG controls over 55,000 seats across four key cities and has forecast ticket sales across all four UK arenas to top 3 million this year.
