TITLE:   Operations and Production Technician

DEPARTMENT:  Operations / Technical

CONTRACT:  Annualised hours  minimum 780 hours per year - nominally 15.0 hours per week

LOCATION:  Playhouse Whitley Bay

REPORTING TO: Theatre Director/Technical Officer/Event Co-ordinator

• To ensure high standards of technical services are provided to clients and patrons.
• To be proficient in stage working operations – Lighting, Fly System, Fire Curtain, Stage Cues and Sound
• To deputise for Technical Manager and work as deputy technician as and when required
• To be aware of the Company Policy regarding Health & Safety and to ensure all clients and patrons observe the rules

Key Accountabilities

1. Assist Department Supervisors in the organisation of all aspects of technical side of the venue, including but not limited to load in/out, rehearsals, performances etc.
2. Ensure all work activities comply with SMG Health and Safety policies and procedures
3. Liaise tactfully and professionally with both production touring personnel and venue SMG staff, services and contractors.
4. To act as Technical number 2 and deputise for Technical Officer if/when absent.
5. Supervision of stagehands, joiners, light/sound technicians in Technical Officer’s absence.
6. To supervise/help prepare venue stage and backstage facilities prior to and during events.
7. Assist with venue operational and maintenance duties including PAT testing.
8. To undertake any other duties as assigned by the Technical Officer, Event Co-ordinator Theatre Director.

Skills & Competencies required:

1. Experience of working in a technical capacity on stage. Comfortable with the challenges this brings including experience of stage, lighting and sound systems.
2. To be able to prioritise and plan workload.
3. The ability to multi task and ensure productivity.
4. An awareness of office based IT systems for report writing.
5. Reliable with the willingness to learn and develop.
6. Capable of integrating into a new team, demonstrating the ability to work both alone and as a team member.
7. Able to demonstrate the necessary communicative skills required for success in the commercial market place.

Additional Points

Due to the nature of the role there will be a requirement to work week-ends, evenings and public holidays.

This role is an annualised hours role to the needs of the business.

There may be a requirement to travel to other SMG Venues / Sites.
